As a genX Bi man, the role of HIV and the subsequent popularisation of damaging Bisexual stereotypes were likely key reasons I didn't even acknowledge my bisexuality until my late 40s. I saw very little representation across any media, and what little I did see lodged in my psyche. It seems absurd now, but the option that I'm capable of attraction to any gender or gender representation simply didn't occur to me, as I thought I had to pick a side. I'm so glad things are slowly improving, as my kids' generation (genZ), seem to be discarding those damaging binary beliefs about attraction. They find it hard to understand the confluence of factors that contributed to my experience. This video helps tell that story.
